Pre Veterinary Medicine

Fall Junior Practicum (20 hrs., 6 classes)
Clinical Communication Skills Part I

The purpose of this class is to 1) introduce basic communication principles, concepts and skills for effective clinical interviewing, 2) to develop an outcomes-based approach to clinical communication, and 3) to provide opportunities to practice clinical interviewing.

September 20 - October 29, 2010

Spring Junior Practicum (20 hrs., 6 classes)
Clinical Communication Skills Part II

The purpose of this second class is to 1) apply the communication skills learned in Part I and 2) introduce new challenges including dealing with ethical dilemmas, addressing financial concerns, and conducting end-of-life conversations. Students continue practicing clinical interviewing skills.

February 20 - March 10, 2011 and March 27 - April 14, 2011

Senior Rotation (40 hours, 6 classes)

The purpose of this class is to 1) develop effective clinical communication skills and 2) to provide opportunities for client interactions to enhance client communication skills, particularly related to end of life discussions, decision making and highly emotional situations.
